Great Leighs Uniform How to order Second hand Uniform
We expect all children to wear school uniform and to take a pride in it. The main item of uniform is the red school cardigan or jumper, with an embroidered logo, and our school tie which can be purchased from the School Office. We encourage children to wear black trousers/skirts, a white shirt/blouse and black trainers. All clothing should be clearly named. Girls can wear red gingham dresses in the summer months. Foundation Stage pupils may wear either a white polo ‘T’ shirt or white shirt, but are not expected to have a school tie until they enter Year 1.
Long hair should be tied back and sensible hair accessories – preferably with school colours – should be used. No jewellery should be worn to school. A watch and small stud earrings are permitted, but these must be removed for PE lessons. Nail polish, make-up false nails of any type and hair dye are not allowed.
You can also purchase second hand uniform from our Friends of Great Leighs School (FOGLS) uniform shop. All money raised from the sale of this uniform goes to the school as part of the FOGLS fundraising efforts. Click here to visit the second hand shop.
PE
All Children should have a white school T-shirt with logo, and a pair of red shorts for PE. Plimsolls or trainers are needed for games/fitness outside. A plain tracksuit is needed for games in the cooler months. For safety earrings should be taken out for PE activities. If your child cannot remove their earrings by themselves, then please ensure they do not wear them to school on a PE day. All children should wear their PE kit to school on their PE days, with the exception of Foundation Stage, where we ask that all PE kit is named and stored in a named PE bag at school.
Book bags/Ruck sacks
All children from Foundation Stage to Year 3 should use a named, school book bag to bring their reading book, home learning activities and letters to and from school.

Our policy
Being at Great Leighs school is not all about learning and fun! We are healthy too. We believe strongly that happy healthy children learn, grow and develop into wonderful people. Our children agreed, with the help of the school council, that our school policy was to have a healthy fruit or vegetable based snack Monday to Thursday and, as is healthy in life, a treat day would be Friday. We also have a Healthy Crew who meet half termly to discuss how we can continually make the school a healthier and happier place.
The Learning Council presented to the school to promote healthy snacks and good hygiene. They also created a poster about e-safety
and if you are looking for ideas for a healthy lunchbox, here are their ideas for a healthy lunch box.

At Foundation Stage our children use specific programmes directed by the teacher to support their learning.
As the children enter Key Stage 1 children are expected to use the internet to research a variety of topics. From this age upwards all children receive an annual internet safety session at the beginning of the autumn term in line with our Responsible Internet Use Agreement
At this time parents are asked to discuss internet safety with their child and both child and parent need to sign and return our Responsible Internet Permission Form which is required in order that children can use the Internet in a supervised manner at school.
Following a recent meeting with local headteachers, it has been recognised that, at times, schools have needed to deal with issues arising from a negative use of social media websites, where inappropriate comments regarding the school or members of its community have been made.
We would urge all our parents to refrain from posting negative comments about individuals or the school on social media websites, as it has detrimental effects on the school community which is continually striving to provide the best learning and nurturing environment for our pupils. Should you have any concerns regarding your child we encourage you to meet with your child’s class teacher and then with me should the problem continue.
Likewise we would urge you to keep an eye on any social media sites your children are using – bearing in mind that most social media platforms require children to be 13 years of age to register. Although used out of school, issues regarding the bullying of children via social media sites come to school and affect the relationships of pupils and their learning. I hope that we can work together on this matter as we all want our school to flourish and to nurture your children who are at the heart of all that we do.
We regularly publish internet e-Safety tips on our newsletter.
